Announcing the release of XLThermo

We’re excited to share some big news — XLThermo is here! After months of hard work, we’re thrilled to release this engineering toolbox for Microsoft Excel, built to make life easier for engineers in the chemical process industries.

Why XLThermo

Let’s face it — most engineers don’t need a massive process simulator for their everyday work. A recent AIChE survey confirmed it: engineers often prefer simpler tools. But while there are plenty of simulation packages out there, tools that are simple, powerful, and easy to use isn’t as common. That’s where XLThermo comes in.

Since Excel is already the go-to tool for many calculations and modeling tasks, we decided to build XLThermo as an add-in that integrates directly with it. No need to learn something new — just open Excel, and you’re good to go!

What Can XLThermo Do?

In this first release, XLThermo includes:

  • Functions and tools for calculating thermodynamic and transport properties of pure fluids like water, ammonia, CO₂, refrigerants, and hydrocarbons.
  • A free version that covers water and steam — perfect to get you started.
  • A commercial version with a full library of fluids. Check out the full list here.

And this is just the beginning! We’re already planning features like mixture property calculations, pressure drop estimation, equipment sizing, and more in future updates.

Try It Out!

The basic version of XLThermo is free forever, so why not give it a go? If you run into any issues, or have ideas to make it better, shoot us an email at support@xlthermo.com.
